Ruby Usman

Ruby was born in the slums of Karachi, Pakistan. She has experienced sexual abuse at the hands of many men as a child; some of them strangers and others, close family members. She grew up as a Muslim woman and experienced violence as an integral part of society and culture. She now writes about these traditions and hopes that by starting these debates, a new face of Islam is revealed. A new Islam with love, compassion and forgiveness for ALL irrespective of their gender, race and colour.

    Thanks Ruby.
I agree. It seems that we continue to be triggered. Not sure iit’s ever ends. But it’s great to have the tools to deal with it.
My way of putting it is that for me a sign of being triggered is an overwhelming reaction.
I have a little process: stop breathe feel story attend.
Breathe. Slow down my reaction so I can feel.
Stay with the feeling so I can recognise where it belongs. Put it in the event. Story it. At end to the need that was met.
And it’s such a wonderful to then be able to share it with a loving person and be further attended to with their love and support.
    Thanks.
    Mary
